Career

Freelance Work

My primary dream career has been to edit videos with Adobe software and perform voice-overs.  I was inspired to edit videos by my fascination with my progress in video post-production during my education at Missouri State University.  I was also inspired to be a voice talent by my debut paid project via Upwork, "Sentence Reading for Deep-learning Speech Recognition Model," from July to October 2020.  Deepgram, a speech recognition company, posted that job on Upwork to develop a new generation of AI speech recognition technologies.  As a man in my 20s, I decided that my own voice stands out for sounding noticeably deep, and even unique in contrast to other men in my generation, which is why I applied for that job.  (Yes, generation is the keyword.)  For that job, I recorded myself reading series of sentences and phrases.  After I worked for Deepgram, I participated in other temporary and one-time projects as a freelance voice talent via Upwork, such as Upwork's Dialogue Collection in April-June and October-December 2021.  For the Dialogue Collection, I performed in fictional recorded phone calls between a customer and a customer service representative.

Then in March 2021, I got my official debut job as a video editor for Reesa Myers, the owner of Spotlite Media, via Upwork.  That spring and summer, I edited or assisted Reesa in editing over 40 videos for various clients, such as Miami T, 2ndlifeTref, Organized Mama, Squarewheel, Musician's Addition, and Quesadilla Gorilla.  And that July, I got another job as a video editor for Brad McDaniel.  I edited videos for two organizations that Brad runs: Wonder Dog Training & Games, for whom I edited three promotional videos that summer; and Maverick Missions, for whom I edited some episodes of the series Advanced Sonship Camp that fall.

The Hive of the Ozarks

In March 2022, I embarked on a new, different journey of employment, a paid internship, at The Hive, a café/coffee shop in Willard, Missouri, with a purpose to hire persons with disabilities.  I had thought about brewing coffee and washing the dishes and cleaning there.  (I have really liked coffee shops since my teens!)  But besides washing dishes and brewing our specialty coffee and serving and busing tables, I also took part in our social media/marketing by taking and, yes, editing videos to promote various items on the menu.  I even performed the voicemail message for The Hive's telephone system.  I completed my internship in August 2022.

Substitute Food Service Cook

Right after I completed my internship at The Hive, I became a Substitute Food Service Cook for Willard High School for one semester.  For that job, I washed dishes in the dishroom and assisted with some other duties as needed.

Education

High School Senior Project

My Senior Project for Republic High School, the high school I graduated from in May 2016, addressed enhancing the qualities of old videos downloaded from YouTube.  This is the project for which I first used Adobe software.  The below are only a few of the various videos I tried to modify for my Senior Project.

College Education

In the Fall 2016 semester, I began my college education at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri, where I studied Introduction to Electronic Media Production.  For that class, I learned to edit videos with Adobe Premiere Pro, and began to use it instead of After Effects, the program I had used to enhance videos for my Senior Project.  In 2018, I graduated with an Associate of Arts Transfer Degree with Honors.

From Ozarks Technical Community College, I transferred to Missouri State University in Springfield, from where I would earn a Bachelor of Science in Digital Film & Television in December 2020.  During my education there, I studied Digital Film & Media Production in the Fall 2018 semester and Principles of Cinematography in the Fall 2019 semester.  For those classes, I edited the videos my groups and I had filmed.  Also in the Fall 2019 semester, I took an internship with Carbon Trace Productions, a film production company near Missouri State University, for which I enhanced footage of the Vietnam War downloaded from YouTube.  Then, in the Spring 2020 semester, I studied Editing for Film and Television.  These classes provided me experience in video post-production editing.

Finally, in the Fall 2020 semester, I completed an Independent Study at the Special Collections and Archives Department at Duane G. Meyer Library.  For my Independent Study, I gained additional experience in old video enhancement by learning to digitize and enhancing the university's videotaped student interviews with war veterans.

Volunteer Work

I started volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Hospital in Springfield in June 2017 for Honors Service Learning, an Honors class at Ozarks Technical Community College.  I was a great volunteer for the Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks with over 500 hours of service in all.  In fact, during the RMHC of the Ozarks' Volunteer Recognition Dinner in April 2018, I received the Outstanding Young Volunteer Award for my hard work and enthusiasm.
