Other Videos I Edited

I actually edited my rough cut of this Continuity Edit for my Editing class.  But I did NOT even start a final cut for two years after screening my rough cut in that class.

Old Video Enhancements

This was the subject of my Senior Project at Republic High School in Republic, Missouri, the high school I attended, and became a hobby of mine afterward.  As you have probably noticed, the typical quality of movies/videos from the late 19th and 20th centuries is not as good as today's digital videos.  For one thing, some grain/noise, dust/dirt, and scratches appear throughout the video.  (“Dust” and “dirt” are those random lines and dots that appear frequently on old videos and movies.  I thought those were grain, but when I once read part of the Wikipedia article "Film preservation," I saw that "dirt/dust" is one of the various defects on an old film to be repaired to restore it.  So it turns out that the dirt/dust are those lines and dots you see on old films.)  For another thing, hiss can be audible even during what is otherwise silence on old, analog footage.

The videos below show these characteristics.  For additional information about how I enhanced each video, click the link to view the enhanced version on YouTube and read the description below.

Videos I enhanced FOR my Senior Project

1990s LOGO FOR ROADSHOW ENTERTAINMENT

ORIGINAL VERSION

ENHANCED QUALITY

This version is actually the final modified version from AFTER, NOT DURING, my Senior Project.  Even as I was modifying it for my Senior Project, the hopping frames and scratches from the original version remained, but not in THIS version.  Also in the original modified version, the audio is only audible from the right channel.  So I re-adjusted it to be heard on both the left and right stereo channels while still removing the hiss.  In my mind, the audio should be audible from both stereo channels.

Roadshow Entertainment used this particular version of their logo for their videotapes in 1993, the reported year the logo premiered.  This early variant had a gray tint.

But as I color-corrected this video, I ended up with a surprise: the Vs in this logo obtained their color for the standard version! So not even the early variant was exactly grayscale!

This video and the next six are among the 12 videocassettes I digitized for my Independent Study with the Special Collections and Archives Department of Duane G. Meyer Library at Missouri State University in the Fall 2020 semester.  These cassettes are also part of the Veterans History Project owned by the Library of Congress.

Videos I enhanced for Carbon Trace Productions

Carbon Trace Productions is a local film production company near Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, that specializes in short documentaries.  I took a media internship for Carbon Trace in the Fall 2019 semester.  One of the few different projects I took on was, yes, enhancing old videos--in this case, footage of the Vietnam War.
